The “heart” of the 3.5 t Canter model is a 3 litre Common rail diesel engine with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Variable geometry Turbo (VGT) now available at 3 horsepower ratings. Developing on the current tried and tested offering the standard model develops 125 hp (92 kW) and peak torque of 294 Nm at just 1,700 rpm. This reduces the need for frequent gear changing and makes for a more relaxed, stress-reduced drive which is something of particular benefit in and around town. New for Euro 4 are the entry level 110 hp (81 kW) engine with torque of 255 Nm at 1,600 rpm and the new flagship 3.5t model 145 hp (107 kW) engine with torque of 370 Nm at 1,700 rpm.
The 6.5 t to 7.5 t Canter models are powered by equally efficient 3 litre engines developing 145 hp (107 kW) with torque of 370 Nm at 1,600 rpm and 175 hp (129 kW) with torque output of 430 Nm at 1,600 rpm respectively. Both units are direct injection with intercooler to meet Euro 5 and EEV emission standards
